minus signs not recorded in splits

When I enter the amount in a transaction split, I include a minus sign, but it comes out positive in the list. I have to then use the edit button to put the minus sign in again, then it gets saved as negative.

5.3.2 is obsolete, probably a but into it.
latest is 5.8.6

According to my repository 5.3.2-1 is the latest.

I've added the PPA and updated to 5.8.6. I guess I'll see if that helps. So far it seems to be fixed. I will update thread when I know for sure.

this was this bug: #1976138 split amount opposite sign don't work when using + button

fixed in 5.5.6 release in june, 2022.
