Deposit One Paycheck Into Multiple Bank Accounts

Asked by Shannon Brown

I would like to setup an Income and deposit of a paycheck. The paycheck is one amount but gets automatically deposited into three accounts: checking, savings, other. I caannot find a way to do this (I am VERY new to Homebank.)

So, I would have a transaction...income...deposit a paycheck (income) to three different bank accounts (already setup in Homebank).

I have had a similar situation, and the only two ways I found to do it are -

1. Create 3 separate transactions in HomeBank, one for each deposit.

2. Create one 'key' transaction which uses split transactions.
For the other two bank accounts, create an "Expense" split transaction for each with it's own category:sub-cat. You could use the same one if you can keep track of what's coded to go where.
Then create two new transactions as Income which you code to the relevant category:sub-cat used in the first transaction.

Given what you need to do for the 2nd method, I would tend to choose the first method.

You have to do it like this because you can't code a Transfer within a split transaction - if you could all would be solved. Some packages do allow that but I can understand the internal code required to manage & track such things would be tricky. We're only home users anyway & we don't pay Maxime enough (for some it may be "if any" $s) for such a wonderful accounting package to have the feature added - there's enough other updates getting made all the time.

Thank you. With more usage, I simply setup a template and put the income into the respective accounts as separate transactions as suggested. This works so far.
