Credit card refunds - net expense view

Asked by Bojan Trajkovski

Hi,

I'm a new user with Homebank. I'm using version 5.7.3 and I'm struggling finding information for what I need.

With credit card transactions I sometimes have refunds and I'm trying to find the correct way to process the refunds. I'm currently processing a refund as an Income (I can't seem to process as Expense and change the - to +). I'm selecting the refund against the original category for the original expense.

The problem is that when I'm looking at expenses, I'd like to see what my net expenses are i.e. I would like to see the refund reduce the expense amount for the category in question.

I saw a post here from 2019 talking about a similar issue, but they seemed to be using an older version of Homebank and it doesn't seem applicable to mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have the same question.
I have a credit card transaction for Expense Category Books. I spend $20.00 in books on the credit card.

I return the book. I cannot find any way to reverse the transaction. So far, I have been processing as the Category Not an Expense to at least keep the account balances correct.

But this does not deduct the return from the original expense.

I am not understanding the resolution here as User Error. What is the error?

(I tried using the Expense Category and get an error as incorrect type.)
