How do you submit changes to the manual?

Asked by Knickers Brown

There does not appear to be documentation in the manual that explains you need to add the initial balance to a new account via Manage->Accounts

How can I submit changes to the HomeBank manual?

Example:

By default, HomeBank will detect exact duplicate (within the current import),

Proper English requires "detect exact duplicates" or "detect an exact duplicate" not "detect exact duplicate".

Example:

This section will be showed for transaction suspected to already exists.

Proper English requires "shown" not "showed".

Example:

The detection of similar transaction is done in the following order

Proper English requires "of similar transactions" or "of a similar transaction".

There don't seem to be any options to translate broken English into proper English on the translation page:

https://translations.launchpad.net/homebank

I don't see why not given that countless people are suffering with errors like this:
This section will be SHOWED for transaction suspected to already exists.

there is several way doing what you ask:

1) simplest:
report as a bug, were you can
- provide your changes as you did above
- provide a zip with modified files
=> i will merge the changes for the next release

2) more complex:
using a branch to the code, the html files are into the doc folder

I started committing updates to lp:~metta-crawler/homebank/copy-editing

I have only updated two of the HTML files. I will work on more of them later. Please let me know what you think of my submissions.

Thanks

Some of what you wrote in the Homebank documentation is quite remarkable. If only I knew what was meant by it. I consider this a fantastic way to improve my knowledge of how to manage my finances. The more of your documentation that I improve by my copy-editing, the more I learn.

BTW I was hit by a car while crossing a street on foot and I've had quite a bit of medical attention this month. There may be some delays between the updates that I am providing.

Admittedly I use a fair number of alternative online IDs. One of them is Amberelle Mason because I'm a gender-something.

In the past I cleaned up the Grocy docs, you can see what I did here:

I tore down that github repo. I'm not too sure about HomeBank. I think I'll try using a spreadsheet with three columns: "essential purchases", "luxury purchases" and "spending limit".
