Can't change the amount on an inherit transaction

Asked by thunder storm

When I inherit a transaction with a transaction split, The field is grayed out and it won't let me change the amount field.

Attached is the inherit screen with split being used. the amount field is grayed out.

I try to use this function for a re-occurring bill that the amount changes and the transaction split amount changes.

It won't let me do it, so each time I have to create a new transaction and reenter all the amounts each time.

When you want to edit an existing split or an inherited split, just change the splits lines
The principle of the split is that the root txn is the sum of the split line, this is why it is grayed out.

I tried changing the spit lines and it won't let me. Please show me with pictures.
I've tried every possibility I can think of without having to delete all the info on the transaction split screen.

You said --- When you want to edit an existing split or an inherited split, just change the splits lines
The principle of the split is that the root txn is the sum of the split line, this is why it is grayed out.
I tried that too and it did not work.

Here what I have done
I inherited a transaction with transaction splits
The amount is grayed out so I can't change it.
I open the Transaction Splits and there are 8 entries that total the amount on the initial inherit screen.
On the bottom of the screen is the transaction amount, unassigned, and sum of splits and you can't change the transaction amount and the sum of splits.
When I change one of the split categories amounts it says:
Warning: sum of splits and transaction amount does not match.
So, no matter what I attempt to change it won' let me change the transaction amount.
The only way to make it work is to click the (delete all) button. Then I can change the transaction amount.

(Delete all) defeats the purpose because now I have to reenter every category item, memo and amount again and all I want to change are the amounts.

I think I have gotten it to work. Here is what I had to do.

I have to inherit the transaction
Then go to the transaction categories and change the amounts
The amounts at the bottom of the screen will say that the amounts don't match and show the difference.
I had to ignore the amounts don't match.
Now you have to say ok even if they don't match.
Now the initial inherit screen will change the transaction amount.

It's not very intuitive, but I got it to work.
