Can old Backup files be safely deleted

Asked by Brian Foulds

I've been using Homebank for some time now and it is a great personal productivity tool - thanks.

I have noticed that I have amassed many .bak files and would like to delete the vast majority, but wanted to check whether this would cause any problemswith running Homebank before I do this.

Thanks
Brian

.BAK files can be deleted anytime, but you need to keep the recent one/s. It will only use them under the "File / Restore Backup" option.
NB: I use HomeBank on Windows but assume menus etc will essentially look the same / apply on other platforms.

SOMETHING TO CHECK:
HomeBank should automatically keep them under control, as there is a setting in Preferences (found under Edit menu) on the "Backup" tab. I have "Number of backups to keep:" set to 5, and have never have any buildup of "old" backups.

Check this setting for your HomeBank file doesn't have some huge number in it! If there is, I don't know if HomeBank will delete the excess next time you open it; you might need to delete the excess manually yourself. Also .. it probably will only do the deleting when it next creates the backup, ie on the first open of the day (would seem logical at least).
