What happens to restitutions in an expense category?

Asked by Guus Bonnema

This morning I was registering a restitution from a subscription I had ended, when I got a warning that the sign of the amount (which was positive) did not align with the sign of the category (which is an expense category). The point is that the restitution does apply to the category because it lower the expense.

What is the effect of keeping the restitution in the expense category? Does the warning mean anything will be interpreted wrong? Or .. is it just a warning and if all is well, I can leave the transaction in the category?

No, it does not answer my question. The question is: if I have a positive amount on an expense category, or a negative amount on an income category, I get a warning. Does that mean it is not interpreted correctly? Or is the warning just a failsafe?
