homebank warning

I've installed HomeBank on OSX Mojave 10.4.5 using MacPorts. All ok eventually, get HomeBank installed seemingly correctly with all necessary dependencies, X11 etc, but HomeBank immediately reports a warning when I then try to run it from the command line ...

homebank:52966): WARNING **: 11:44:06.443: unable to load file /Users/alan/.config/homebank/preferences: Not a regular file
failed: No such file or directory

And that's it - nothing else happens.

I've tried creating an empty preferences file (using touch) and an empty directory called preferences but no joy. It now reports failed: No such file or directory.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
