Which is recommended: Linux or Windows?

Might sound like an odd question, but I depend on Homebank.
Previously, I had some crashes in Windows with Homebank. It was probably my Windows installation that was not in good health.
I am coming to do a fresh install on a new hard disk. My choice is Windows or Ubuntu, latest version of both.
Which do you think will be more stable?
If all is equal, then I will go with Ubuntu, because I like the concept of Open Source.
