QIF Import Problem

Asked by MathUHenry

I suspect this is a simple setup problem, but I couldn't find any solution (or even reference) online. I just installed HomeBank on Ubuntu 8.10 and exported a QIF from Quicken 2006. When I try to import the QIF to HomeBank, it tells me that the file format is not supported. As I understand, that file format is central to HomeBank; could there be something wrong with my configuration?

What version did you installed? QIF is only supported in the 4.* series.

That's clearly the problem. The program that installed for Ubuntu is 3.8. I tried to install 4.0.2, but wasn't able to do it. I'm not proficient in Linux and have not yet had success installing programs from their source code.

For other amateurs trying to use QIF on Ubuntu 8.10 in an i386 system, you can install HomeBank 4.0.2 from the downloads of homebank and homebank-data here:
http://www.getdeb.net/release/3946

Be sure to remove the older version of homebank:
sudo apt-get remove homebank

then install homebank-data_4.0.2-1~getdeb1_all.deb
then install homebank_4.0.2-1~getdeb1_i386.deb
