How to create a file for a single year

Each year, I save the previous year's file as a new year, and it includes every year that I have used HomeBank. Is there any way to save just the 2016 transactions in one file? I'm assuming I would have to delete everything but 2016 and then save it, which is awkward. Is that the only way?
