[5.1.4] Cannot compile on Debian Jessie

Asked by Nicholas Wastell

Hello,

Compiling from 5.1.4 source tarball, configure fails with the following error:

checking for DEPS... no
configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-3.0 >= 3.16 glib-2.0 >= 2.39) were not met:

Requested 'gtk+-3.0 >= 3.16' but version of GTK+ is 3.14.5

This appears to be a regression from 5.1.3, which compiled and installed without errors on this machine just a few days ago. There is no higher version of libgtk-3-0 available for Jessie. The published dependencies list does not give a required version.

Any guidance, please?

HB uses some feature available only under gtk 3.16 (which by the way is already 2 years old now).
=> find a way to upgrade GTK+
=> move to a more recent distro (or debian 8.7 ?)

Thank you for your response.

I was surprised that a point/maintenance release bumped a fundamental library version, especially as there was no mention in the Changelog.

Debian Jessie is still the current stable version and will never have a newer version of libgtk-3-0. An up-to-date Jessie is already v8.7.

Can you help with this problem?
