wish: split a transaction to include a transfer

Asked by Brian

Cash back on a purchase means the total receipt includes payment of goods and cash to my Cash account. When I download from my bank it comes in as a single transaction, but to balance accounts I need to split that transaction into two . Example: groceries for $50 and ask for $30 cash back. The receipt and transaction is for $80. When I record that single transaction, I want to split $50 into my groceries category and $30 transferred to me cash account. I read an earlier question on this from 2015. I hope new versions of HomeBank will consider this. Overall, HomeBank is a great program and this is the only issue I've seen that MS Money does that HomeBank can not do.

you probably mean an internal xfer: not possible and will never be

Interesting - I understand it's not possible now, but you say it never will be. I wonder why it will never be possible in HomeBank? Getting cash back from a purchase (which is two transactions: 1 payment for goods and 1 internal transfer to Cash account) is a very common practice today. It seems like a very practical feature for any financial software.

Brian, have you considered having your transaction as an expense and split it into two categories: groceries and bank fees? I don't understand your case, but I have a similar case with my bank where, for example, I fill $80 of gas and get a cashback of $4, for a receipt of $76.

Just a note: the idea of cashback being considered a refund of bank fees is adequate for my case, as cash never really enters my pocket or any account

Now the issue that brought me to this question: I have a savings account that is automatically topped monthly, and my bank account does that each month in a single transaction, where it takes, for instance, $52 from my debit account, charges me $2 and moves $50 to the savings account. In this case, I wanted to have a split transaction where $2 are bank fees and $50 are a transfer to my savings account. It looks like it is not possible in HomeBank.

Another case will be for a loan.
You have a car loan with his own liability account, negative
You pay from your savings account, I got a split in three:
- payment for principal loan
- loan interest
- insurance

It will be great to be able to make internal transfer for the loan principal in the split. So when it gets in the car loan account, it will be an income and the car loan amount will be updated.

Now, I make the split, the payment for the loan will be automobile: payment
And in the car loan account, make a manual income with the same amount.

Can you help with this problem?
