Definition of Account vs. Category and Forum?

Asked by John Sowden

I am considering using this program for a small business. Someone else mentioned that they did. That is why I am looking for a forum so I can see others questions and answers. I am trying to understand HomeBank's definitions of Account and Category. I assume that Category is another name for "Expense Account", following Intuit's definition. I further "think" Account might mean a "Source Account", that is, an account where funds (or values) come from. I am including Credit Cards, payroll liabilities (on the employer side), and other assets (even fixed assets, as value is taken as the asset is depreciated.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I'll reserve my "wish list" for later :) .

Came upon a problem. I have a couple of credit cards. I want to pay the Amex card. How do it do it. I found a message where someone else had the same problem. The response was Transfer from Bank to Credit Card. How do I specify which credit card? I understand the Account in the transaction form is the one being charged but how to you enter the other Account (the CC)? Do I set up duplicate Accounts' and 'Categories'?
