Some transactions don't show up but do affect the bank and future balances

Asked by Sopor42

I've just started using Homebank 3.6 yesterday, and I started running into situations where transactions were not appearing on the account screen, but were affecting the Bank and Future balances, but were not affecting the Today balance. I thought I had somehow screwed up my first wallet, so I simply started over and didn't document very well what happened.

On this second wallet however, I caught what went wrong much sooner. I had just started working with a brand new checking account, and had added a single transaction for previous balance. The transaction appeared to be just fine in the account screen, and all three balances for that account appeared fine then. After I closed the account screen, I noticed on the Wallet screen that the balances were no longer correct! The Bank and Future were both showing a balance of $5.37 (which was correct) and the Today was showing $0! When I reopened the account, there were no transactions listed, but the balances have remained! I added another transaction to see if that would help the system find the original, but to no avail. The balances are still skewed by $5.37... Am I missing a step, or should I have submitted this as a bug? I didn't want to jump the gun (I'm new to Ubuntu, Linux in general, so I don't know if it's stupid user syndrome...)

Please help, it looks like I may not need to start my whole wallet over again anyway, since this is almost exactly what happened to the first wallet...

Ok I tried that on v3.8 (last version) to reproduce a complete case, please confirm you get the same result on v3.6, or not:

- you start homebank
- add a new account with for example $100
- at this step all your balance should be $100

- then you open the account
- add a transaction of +$50 (not validated)
- on this window the balance are $100, $150, $150
- you close the account window
- on the wallet window (main) the balance are $100, $150, $150

- direct add a transaction of +$1000 (validated)
- on the wallet window (main) the balance are $1100, $1150, $1150

all seems correct to me

If it is not for you, please check you settings and emty the thousand separator, there is sometime some problems with that for some languages
In that case it is just a display problems when numbers reach more that 3 digits before the decimal separator.

In every case let me know what the result of all of this.

Hi Maxime, thanks for helping!

I tried as you instructed, and ended up with all the right balances. There was a short period, immediately after adding the first $50 transaction, that the account screen was showing balances of $0,$0, and $50. However, as soon as I closed the account the wallet was showing the right balances.

I have not been able to reproduce this error again. Would it be helpful if I send you the wallet file with the errors? Perhaps you can see something I am missing!

Again, thanks for your help!

Oh my, I'm quite embarrassed! This looks to have been user error all along!

I had somehow managed to put a transaction out in the future by almost 30 days, and hadn't realized it! Since I was so new with the software, I didn't realize it was telling me that I had hidden transactions at the bottom of the account screen, or that I should change my date range to "All"!!

I realized this all after I opened the old wallet that I thought was screwed up, and realized it just had some future transactions! Duh!

Thanks again for your help Maxime!
