Any way to hide a group of transactions from reports?

Asked by Joel Maxuel

Hello, this is day two of me using the HomeBank software, and I am liking what I see so far.

I do have a question, which may turn into a feature request. I know that this does not enforce Double-Entry-Booking (which i like), but there are some cases where I would like to use DEB practices. I have three accounts: Cash; Debit (as in my chequing/savings accounts) and Credit (credit cards).

To keep the "Your Accounts" page happy, I went back through my transactions and included those that involve moving money from one account to the next, in DEB fashion. I have these coded as "Money In" and "Money Out" subcategories, both under a category called "Transfer". The category itself is marked Income for now, as it doesn't really have a home under either category type.

The problem I am facing is that my "Where your money goes" page, set to Subcategory - or it seems any report viewed - has the Transfer Category listed, and I don't think it should be (moving a dollar from cash to debit does not mean I lost a dollar in expenses - or gained a dollar in income - it's all the same pot of money).

Could there be a way to exclude categories from reports - or better yet - assign this kind of category to a new type (like "Transfers")?

I looked at the example/sample document to see if there was a trick to hide those transactions. Internal transfers were not categorized at all - and I started to adjust my staging data for this method - but then I realized that the reports in the sample still show "(no category)" as a category.

Any thoughts on what I can do, or would this be a feature for a future version (if up to the challenge)?

I am using the 4.6.1 version on Debian Jessie, and 5.0.5 on Windows. Thanks.

Figured it out. I had to match all the internal transfers. Once that was done, the category disappeared from the reports as it should.

Slow process for only 9 months of data, but not too bad.
