How to split transcation to include a TRANSFER?

Asked by Scott M

How can I split a SINGLE purchase to include multiple "categories" AND a TRANSFER to another account?
I have a Bank Checking account.
I also have a Petty Cash account.
I use my Bank Checking DEBIT card to purchase $33.49 worth groceries/beer at the grocery store AND get $20 cash back
($53.49 total for the debit against my Bank Checking account.)
I can split the transaction for multiple categories (groceries $13.49, beer $20.00), but, I also want to INTERNAL TRANSFER the $20 cash back into my Petty Cass Account.
I need to do this as ONE transaction since I only have ONE receipt.
How do I do this?

Let's look at a different scenario. I have a Mortgage payment, which is paid from my checking account. I can do an internal transfer from the checking to the mortgage, but cannot perform a split of categories in the process. This means that I cannot show the Principal, Interest and Escrow categories in either account. This does not make sense. At some point the Transfer must be able to split categories, it would be ridiculous to assume separate transactions in this case. Consider this a feature request.
