How do I update for new versions without uninstall / reinstall, and preserving all data?

This depends on what operating system you are using.

If you are using Windows then you would download the installer and use that.

In Ubuntu there are a couple of ways, but I find the simplest way to always have an up-to-date version of Homebank is to add the GetDeb.net repositories to my package list
