but what do you mean by software?
do you mean the editor the use?
editors are optional you can use anyone even a regular text editor

I mean to say if I want edit or add a feature according to my need and purpose what software I can use for doing so.

To develop under GNU/Linux system, if you are thinking about a development IDE, there is Anjuta.
I was developing with gcc, gedit, shell and autotools in the past but now I also uses Anjuta.
