Thanks for your reply. I believe I am simply jumping on the same request others have made. I was used to gnucash's way of allowing multiple transactions to be listed together as part of the same transaction. Suppose I am buying some groceries at the local food store. The card references my checking account at the local bank. I can pay with a credit card, cash or a debit card. I decide to pay with a debit card. The cost of the groceries is $3.98. I ask the store to deduct $23.98 from my bank account using the debit card. The debit card does require that I enter the 4-digit code that verifies that I am really the owner of this card. Assuming the charge is accepted, the checkout clerk then hands me a $20 bill along with my groceries. Only a debit card allows this kind of transaction. A credit card simply pays for the groceries. I think your position is that such a "split transaction" adds needless complexity to a simple, reliable program. By now I agree. As a retired software engineer and programming hobbyist, I can imagine the extra logic (and testing!) required.

OK, suppose I did it. I got my $20 bill and my groceries. How do I record this in home-bank? I simply register two transactions, one for the groceries I bought, and a second one in which I withdraw, say, $20 cash from my checking account. Both will register the food store as the recipient. Of course, the final recipient of the cash is me. This is really my only quibble with the program. The real recipient of the cash is me. However, I continue to list the store as the recipient because it makes it easier to reconcile the numbers with my bank account. After all, it is the store that, according to the bank, received the cash.

By the way, i am very happy with home-bank, although I did use other methods in the past. Home-bank made it easy to import the data after I rebuilt my computer. I presently run, and develop on, linux Opensuse 11.3 . I was unable to easily import my old Gnucash data into gnucash again without the original file.

I hope this helps.

You probably want to split (or ventilate) the amount of one transaction to several categories.
This is not possible into HomeBank and will probably not be really soon.

There is an old open bug about this feature request: #140504
As explained into this wish bug, this feature will come after many other I consider more important to most users.

Can you help with this problem?
