UI questions

Asked by George

(1) Why is the color in the Observation section white (in the pull-downs) but light green in the Overlay pull-downs? (and again white in the Feature/Events)?

(2) In overlays, shouldn't the descriptors (Opacity, Observatory, Descriptor) be bold faced to match the decriptors in the Obsevation box above?

(3) Why is there no tool-tip on the feature event marker (on the menu)?

(4) Timestep baloon looks a bit odd: is this my Ubuntu/Firefox causing the text to be nudged down within the baloon?

(5) The Recent Updates section takes a lot of valuable real estate. From a development perspective it may be useful (if it was kept really up to date). From a user perspective it does not have any interesting (or up to date information). Shoudn't this be removed altogether and perhaps get a link at the bottom of the page instead? This is just an idea eventhough I understand it may change the layout and "viewport's" geometry in ways that may not be desirable or planned.

Hi George,

(1) Why is the color in the Observation section white (in the pull-downs) but light green in the Overlay pull-downs?
(and again white in the Feature/Events)?

Good point. I originally hoped to give the select menus a more "stylish" appearance, however, for HTML select menus, there is very little you can do using CSS that works consistently across most modern browsers. I tried to change the color to something subtlety different to keep the form from looking like a "generic" html form. I always felt white looked better in other places though so I just left it like that. With the new theme though I think white looks much better. I will switch the observation menus back to their original white backgrounds.

(2) In overlays, shouldn't the descriptors (Opacity, Observatory, Descriptor) be bold faced to match the decriptors in the Obsevation box above?

The styles have changed for this recently, and many of the font-sizes were increased. Do you still think the accordion contents should use bold text?

(3) Why is there no tool-tip on the feature event marker (on the menu)?

I Forgot to add one :) I'll go ahead and add one for that and several other components that are missing tooltips.

(4) Timestep baloon looks a bit odd: is this my Ubuntu/Firefox causing the text to be nudged down within the baloon?

I see. I'll take a look into this.

Let's discuss this at the next meeting. It has never been my intention to keep the "notes" section there: that is simply acting as a placehold for X future functionality we may want to add.

Can you help with this problem?
