How can I stop receiving all public messages in 2.0?

Asked by Malignus

I'm new to Gwibber and I just installed 2.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I set up both my Facebook and my Twitter but I keep receiving constant updates from all "public" messages that are posted to either. I'm not interested in those. How can I receive my friends's updates but no one else's?

Well, I use the version included in Jaunty before the recent 2.0-alpha in Karmic and I think it may has not been a wise decision to place the alpha version in Karmic. It just doesn't work, yet. There are too many bug, as I would except from an alpha.
The problem you are describing made me wonder some days ago. If you click on the public timeline in the left menu a number of messages are loaded and they are blocking the notifications for some minutes.
The only way around this was to restrain myself from clicking on that menu item. :-/

I don't see a "public timeline" in my left menu. It's not so much that I care that public messages are populating within the client itself, it's more that it pops up a message from Ubuntu's indicator applet every time a new public message is posted (which is, essentially, constantly).

It is called just "Public" and a sub entry of the Twitter account.
Don't click it or comment out line 32 of /usr/share/pyshared/gwibber/microblog/twitter.py.

Thank you!

I actually found "public" on line 35 but the annoying notifications are gone. :)
