You can always use twitter follow command. If you want to follow someone, just type

follow @person

as it's a tweet. Twitter will interpret it as a command and will make you follow that person and won't post it. More information here: http://help.twitter.com/forums/10711/entries/14020

ah ok, i didn't know about those commands, so i was just looking for a dialog where you could enter a name or have it in a context menu for people's links on their names. but i guess i can live with that now, although i think a dialog "follow person..." where you just add a name would have been nice.
thanks though :)

I'm a bit lost. Are you saying there is NO way to enter commands in Gwibber? How are commands entered? In that dialog box at the bottom? I have no problem going over to twitter if that is how it's done but what about Gwibber?

Type commands as twits/dents. Services like twitter and identi.ca will interpret commands and won't post them.

bug #519262 suggests implementing a UI for this functionality and has further explanation for how to follow someone via text entered into the send box.
