Please explain how to get FB account working

Asked by N7DR

I've tried everything to enhance my psychic abilities, but somehow I'm still not picking up the vibrations that will explain how to add an Facebook account :-(

Googling in desperation, I came across this tutorial at http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/gwibber-the-everything-client/ :

----

Accounts -> Create -> Facebook
Authorize Gwibber button
Request Login Code button
(A Facebook page loads in the browser)
Give it permissions in Facebook
Copy the login code from your browser to the box
Authorize Status Change button
Give it permissions in Facebook
Close that window
Go to http://www.new.facebook.com/statusupdates/ in your browser
Click the RSS icon in the address bar
You’ll be redirected to a page where you can view the status update RSS feed. Delete the “.new” out of the beginning of it (may or may not be necessary, Facebook keeps changing how their RSS works) and copy and past e that into the “Feed URL” box.

----

So OK, I do the first three steps... and then I sit here wondering what on Earth "A Facebook page loads in the browser" means. As far as I can tell, pressing the "Request Login Code" button does nothing. So what do I need to do to get past this step???

Hmm... it worked for me, I clicked the link and the page opened in Firefox. Have you got a browser set as default? If you don't have a default browser that might cause a problem.

Failing that you could log into facebook through your browse, and then plug this into the address bar:

http://www.facebook.com/code_gen.php?v=1.0&api_key=71b85c6d8cb5bbb9f1a3f8bbdcdd4b05

Facebook changed their Friends in the last week and the RSS link / address bar icon are gone. Is there any way to get the feed now?

This explains why I could find no RSS link on the page! And, as Martin asks, the work-around?

This explains how to add your own status:
http://wesblog.com/?p=1437
Essentially: Change the word ‘notifications’ in your notifications RSS feed URL to ’status’
e.g. http://www.facebook.com/feeds/status.php?id=4942119&viewer=4942119&key=89efc9b19d&format=rss20

Still working out if it is possible to get a feed from your friends or not.

Can you help with this problem?
