Add support for a monochrome GV Icon?

Great job with this project! I would really love to help with this!
I have a few projects of my own that interface with GMail and Google Reader, but I havent taken the step further to get them in the notification area.

I was wondering if there is any way for a user to edit the .desktop icon that you have included to create a monochrome icon, so that it better fits with the default Ubuntu Icon themes (ambiance and radiance)?

I could try to come up with a mono icon mockup, but as far as building it into the source code, Im not so sure.
