gufw won't launch and causes a reboot

Asked by Steve

Hi,
I just installed Linux Mint 19.3. When I try yo launch gufw the program interface shows for 1 second then the system crashes. I have to log back in to get to the desk top. I can enable and disable ufw without a problem, but as I don't know too much about setting rules etc I have previously relied on gufw to allow samba operation. Without gufw I'm pretty much stuck on that front at the moment.

If anyone has an idea as to what might be causing this and perhaps a potential solution to try I'd appreciate any help.

Regards Steve

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Not being that knowledgeable I'm not sure how to create a dump file. However the problem has resolved.
I had been using the nouveau graphics driver after just installing Linux Mint 19.3. I changed to the Nvidia driver ( I have a GTX 1650 super GPU). At that point I was able to run gufw both from the preferences menu on screen and from the terminal. I assume that the problem was connected to the way the nouveau driver interacted with the gufw program.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to create a dump file but at least it's working now.
