suggestion for new function: Internet Kill Switch

Asked by Maarten van Druten

I think a "internet kill switch" icon what would be visible in the Ubuntu Unity top bar
would be great benefit to enhance peoples privacy

So that if you want to watch a movie, or want to listen to some local stored music, you easily can "disable" internet
without having to stand up from your sofa to disconnect the internet cable

A firewall kill switch could be more secure, and faster than browsing through the connection settings
to disabling your internet with "enable internet"

Also this "internet kill switch" icon could be a benefit for laptop users that are travelling,
to enhance security, when they want to work privately

Because not every laptop has an hardware internet kill switch

Hi Maarten,
It could be a good idea, something like fly mode. Probaby a script with ufw
clicking in that icon would be enough.
You could reject incoming and outgoing traffic in a profile and switch to
that profile when you need :)
In the next Unity 8 (already in Ubuntu 16.10) there is a fly mode, as in
mobile (because of convergence).
A hug!
