Firewall Configuration authentication error

I shut down last night. This morning trying to open the Firewall with my password, I pressed authenticate - the authentication window disappeared and then nothing happened! I retried and rebooted several times. No go. The Firewall was left on when I shut down yesterday, so I have no internet access. Can you advise please.
