vpn blocked by gufw ubuntu 14.04

I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS and am finding that the GUFW is the reason it won't connect to VPN.
If I switch it off it connects without a problem.
I have tried opening various ports with the Both option enabled according to guidance received from various forums but nothing works, so I am thinking the GUFW is buggy and the port allows are not being made effective when saved.

Hi!
I don't know how it is working under a VPN, I'm so sorry :(
But without VPN you can close all and just open 1 port if you want. Could
you try that test?
