Will Gufw work well together with Network Manager and Dialup DSL?

Asked by Manuel Reimer

I want to set up the latest LTS Kubuntu. I use dialup internet via DSL modem connected directly to the onboard LAN card.

My plan is to set up this connection via Network Manager but I'm unsure if the Ubuntu Firewall will work with this setup. Will the Firewall be online before the DSL connection is established?

Are there any special settings, I have to do, to be properly secured by the UFW firewall?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Manuel!

There isn't a firewall online or offline :) Gufw will configure ufw
and ufw will configure IPTables (the kernel firewall), then ALL your
traffic will be filtered by that rules.

You need to know your 'special' settings :) My recommendation is:
reject all incoming traffic and open the ports for the services you're
using :)
