zsys compatibility, revert options not working.

Asked by mvtr

Is the customizer compatible with zsys?

I think it doesn't behave very well with the new (experimental) ZFS boot features of Ubuntu 20.04.

Adding a new boot entry for another distro went fine. Then I rebooted and the grubmenu order was changed with a non-working "Ubuntu" on top. Another entry of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS would boot OK.

Figured I'd just restore the ZFS snapshot that zsys makes, so rebooted to select the previous system state. But these don't work anymore, throwing a "invalid option ZFS" message.

edit: Seems grub is not part of the snapshots that zsys makes, it's mounted from separate partition.
 # mount | grep grub
/dev/sda1 on /boot/grub type vfat

Going to try to restore from /etc/grub.d/backup and hopefully get zsys working again. Would be nice to know if this is an incident on my PC or it's simply not compatible with zsys (yet). ;)

ok replaced both /boot/efi/grub and /boot/grub with the backup files and did not run a update-grub. Rebooted, and the menu was restored. Reverted the system state to yesterday's snapshot before installing the package, life is good.

quite a rabbithole i got myself into, somehow grub-customizer entries got restored and need to restore the backups again. Will dig a bit deeper in this but for now i guess io can answer my own question: "No, ZFS Zsys is not supported".
