Vertical Screen Grub Customizer

Asked by techny4287

How do you setup a vertical screen for the grub customizer? Entering 1080x1920 does not change the orientation of text. I would like to display the grub cusomizer as a portrait screen.

There is no such functionality in grub customizer and I don't know a way how to do it manually as well.

Sooo bug? I imagine it would at least be an bug because entering 1080×1920 still yields a resolution of 1920x1080 which would be incorrect format for horizontalxvertical.

I wonder how it is 1920x1080 on your system… I only get 640x480 when using invalid resolutions like 1080×1920.

Officially you can only use the vbemodes. These are displayed when you're pressing "c" on boot menu and running "vbeinfo". However I was able to use some other resolutions as well. In older versions of ubuntu there was a command to detect valid boot resolutions (hwinfo --framebuffer) from a running system but as it was removed, grub customizer cannot help by listing valid resolutions anymore.

Whatever you set as resolution: grub customizer is just writing it to the configuration files of grub. first it's written to /etc/default/grub and then update-grub also moves it "as is" to /boot/grub/grub.cfg. So it's not a configuration problem. It's a technical problem that can only be detected at runtime (when showing the menu).

Can you help with this problem?
