Grub Customizer made a mess in Grub screen at boot

Asked by smurf

HI to all.
I'm using Grub customizer since 1 year on my Ubuntu 10.04, I never had a single problem. Now I'm installing Ubuntu 12.04 and I installed the last version of Grub Customizer (3.0.2).
My pc uses a nVidia GeForce 210 video card managed by nVidia binary drivers.
The new installation is made on a dedicated partition, so I have the two version of Ubuntu working on my pc. First of all I had to realize that the two version of GC are not compatible, if I made changes from one of the two GC the other was unable to handle tha changes, simply ignored them. So I started to use only the new version, but suddenly i found that in the Grub screen at boot, graphics and special char have been substituted for @ char.
I tried to define differents resolutions and no resolution (automatic), but no way. The Grub screen is bad and some parts are unreadable.
How can I fix this problem?

Yes, version 3.x has some format extensions. But they should only be used if required (case: a submenu contains entries of different scripts).

However your problem isn't related to this problem. It's because of the chosen font (at least I think so). Unfortunately, most system fonts are not compatible to grub2 and you've probably chosen such a font. So go to the appearance tab and set another font or simply reset the font by clicking the remove button right to the font chooser.
