Are there plans to support counters?

Asked by k

Graphite is great for graphing gauges but a lot of the information I would like to graph is contained in counters. Are there plans to support these in the future?

Actually this is something that would be implemented in graphite's database library, whisper. I'll create a feature request for it. Most likely what I'll do is keep gauges the default but allow you to override it in the schemas file.

The derivative function handles the graphing of stored "counter" values, does it not? I believe the only limitation here would be the handling of a counter wrapping. A single counter wrap during a polling cycle is fairly straightforward to handle if you know what the maximum value of that counter could be. Multiple wraps in one polling cycle requires some extra massaging logic.

Can you help with this problem?
