Carbon-Cache RETENTIONS

Hello.
How work the carbon-cache RETENTIONS? May I lose my graphs at the retentions time ending?
For example:
               retention = 1s:1m,10s:10m,1m:1d
What this really means?

For last minute you will have data point every second, for last 10 minutes, data point per 5 seconds and for 1 day datapoint per 1 minute.
