total lines to send to graphite

Asked by Mike Wylie on 2012-08-13

Is there a simple metric I can use to gauge how many lines I can send to graphite?

They don't always seem to get to the server, so I may be sending too many at once.

I'm sending around 250 values at once.

There's no limit of lines per connection - you can keep a connection open for months and continue sending lines to it. 250 isn't an unreasonable or unusual amount either.

Are some of the metrics you're working with newly created? Metrics which haven't been created yet wont be saved in the cache and the default throttle for metric creation is only 50 per minute.

If not that, are you seeing any errors in any of the logs?

Hi,

I see, that would explain some of the results I was having. I have spent some creating a script to gather metrics, then when ready, I send hundreds of new metrics in one go.

I have another problem, open here as a separate question, which combined with this issunderstanding, was adding further confusion.

I think the errors in my logs can hopefully be dealt with in my other question.

Thanks for the help
