How to use CellRendererBadge correctly?

According to the documentation, the CellRendererBadge should be drawing a rounded, shaded background: http://www.valadoc.org/granite/img/cellrendererbadge.png However, after adding the CellRendererBadge to my Gtk.ComboBox, I only get the text, which is in the default text color. The CellRendererBadge looks just the same as a CellRendererText. I'm very new to Gtk and I haven't fully understood yet how its CSS system works. But after looking into CellRendererBadge.vala I suppose that maybe some CSS file needs to be loaded?
