Importing from a Word doc

Asked by Daniel

Is there a good way of importing a recipe collection from a Word Doc into Gourmet? There are several hundred and I'd rather not enter them in one by one. I don't have any of the other programs mentioned either.

You could try exporting them from MS Word into a plain text document and
importing from the plain text document.

The problem with Word documents is that there isn't really any recipe specific fixed structure, contrarily to the file formats understood by gourmet which are mostly from other recipe programs.

Stephen is right in that exporting to plain text and trying to import that into Gourmet might be your most promising option, but those plain text documents need to be structured in a way that Gourmet can understand.

You might want to enter a sample recipe in Gourmet and have it exported as plain text file so you can see what sort of fields and formatting Gourmet understands in plain text files. Then export your Word doc as plain text file and in Notepad (or some other text editor), use Search&Replace to mimic the structure that Gourmet expects.

Can you help with this problem?
