How to setup new version of Gourmet Recipe Manager

Asked by Mariamar

Hi, I am a user and lover of a previous version of your software. Recently, after a computer crash, I had to reformat and lost all of my downloaded programs. Now, I'm looking to re-install Gourmet Recipe Manager. Since it now comes zipped, I have downloaded BitZipper 2013, but I don't know how to proceed from there. I'm using Windos Vista.

Also, for what I've read, your main efforts are focused on fixing all bugs and issues on Linux, son if it is not longer possible to use it on Windows, could you please let me know if there is a way to recover all of my recipes?

Your help will be much appreciated.

Regards,
Mariamar

Installing on Windows from the zip archive is rather complicated as you need to manually install a lot of dependencies. The whole process is described at https://github.com/thinkle/gourmet/blob/master/INSTALL.md, but if you don't have any experience with the Python programming language at all, those instructions might look a bit intimidating.

On the other hand, I've been working on an all-in-one Windows installer package for quite a while now, and I'm quite optimistic that I'll be able to release it for a brand new 0.17.0 version some time around new year. From then on, I also intend to provide updates for Windows as regularly as for Linux.

For now, I suggest you re-download our latest (but admittedly a bit dated) Windows release, 0.15.4-alpha, from https://github.com/thinkle/gourmet/releases/download/0.15.4/gourmet-0.15.4-alpha-full_gtkglade-2.12.9.exe and stay tuned for 0.17.0 which you'll find at https://github.com/thinkle/gourmet/releases as soon as it's released!
