mouse capture bug

Asked by danieyek

Hi,

How can I report a bug? When I clicked on "Report a Bug", I got the following:
gnome-screensaver does not use Malone as its bug tracker.
To report a bug about gnome-screensaver, please use its official bug tracker.

So, where exactly is the official bug tracker?

Here is the bug report:
Description:
GNOME desktop effectively froze when gnome-screensaver captured the mouse and refused to release it when the user "came back" working on GNOME desktop.

Background:
I am using Fedora Core 5 with the Screensaver Preferences set to use Blank screen. I am both using tsclient and vncviewer to connect to remote desktops.

Problem:
There were a few times my mouse lost its normal functionality. Mouse caret moved like normal, but clicking yielded no observable effect - window focus didn't change, etc. Keyboard continued to work.

I traced the problem down to gnome-screensaver, because by killing the process, I regain mouse functionality.

I don't have a repro case, because this bug isn't very reproduceable. I suspect it to be a timing bug.

I've seen the same thing happen here using Fedora Core 5. If I have the Gnome screensaver enabled and have my mouse over an rdesktop session then I end up with a non-functional mouse once the screen saver is activated. Moving the mouse deactivates the screen saver but mouse buttons do nothing - exact same thing as above.

This is a serious bug. I hate it that I kept losing my entire GNOME desktop session if I accidentally left my vncviewer in full screen mode (and thus contained the mouse cursor) and when gnome-screensaver kicked in. When I sent SIGHUP to gnome-screensaver from the virtual terminal, I didn't get my mouse back (like before), but my entire desktop session is gone with gnome-screensaver along with all my open application windows and work. This makes the combination of gnome-screensaver and vncviewer or tsclient UNUSABLE. This bug needs to be fixed or a replacement for GNOME desktop locking mechanism is needed.

Thanks.

Daniel Yek.

Also happens on Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) using tsclient, rdesktop or vmware - if the screen saver kicks in while keyboard or mouse is attached to the afore mentioned applications you lose its functioanlity after unlocking the desktop. Ironically, the hotkeys still seem to work even if the keyboard does not...

I'm experiencing similar problems and have filed a bug at GNOME buzilla: Check

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370809

and please add comments if helpful since I'm not sure whether this issue and mine are truly duplicates or just somewhat related.

Can you help with this problem?
