I want to start a new project called....Widglets!

Asked by xax200

I want to help add a new feature to Gnome that I have been wanting. I was looking at KDE 4.3 the other day, and one of the things that I really liked about it was the plasmoids. They are so nice and conformed and useful! So, after I went back to using Gnome (took me about one day) the only thing I really missed was plasmoids. So, I decided that I wanted to make their equivalent for Gnome! Here is a mockup I've created of my idea.

So my idea is to have desktop widgets that stay below other programs, conform to the system theme (can be themed by metacity, compiz, or emerald), as well as the system color. They should be able to be freely scaled, rotated, and resized. I've put just a few of my ideas on the mockup, first and foremost a fully functioned web browsing widget with flash support, followed by a evolution mailbox, a comic strip, and a fifteen piece puzzle.

The objective I'm aiming for is to create a user friendly, useful, bit of eye candy for gnome. So, does any body think this is a good idea or have any suggestions?

I think you should check out GnomeShell

They are supposed to have extensions coded in javascript or something, and it is the "next big thing" for gnome. It might be what you are looking for.

Can you help with this problem?
