Network not running on Compaq Armada 100

Asked by Eric

I can't get my wireless running on my Compaq Armada 110 laptop. Below are the results from some various commands.
The ESSID seems to change every time I reboot the computer, not sure why. I've tried editing /etc/network/interfaces to add the ESSID, security key and everything else, and it still doesn't change. When I first installed Ubuntu, I could click on the wireless icon on the top and see a few available networks, but couldn't connect. I even turned the security off on my own network, and still got prompted for a passphrase or key. I tried setting up WEP, and adding the key into the network interfaces file, it would ask for the key, I would enter it, and then it would ask again. Almost like it didn't accept the key or something. Can anyone tell what I'm doing wrong? If you need to see some more information, just let me know and I can post it. I've been tinkering with this now for two weeks. Also, I guess it's worth noting that I did try NDISwrapper, but cannot find any drivers that would install with validity. Help...

I've decided to re-install Ubuntu again, as I think I was further along with a fresh install. I will provide more information once it is complete.

Can you help with this problem?
