Change ctrl+space binding and uninstall patched nautilus

Asked by TomTasche

Hello,

If I don´t want to use my mouse for marking files and folders, I often use CTRL + Space to mark them.
When Gloobus is installed, it opens. Instead I only want to mark the file / folder.

Keep up the good work ;)
Tom

Hi, you can try to install the patched nautilus that launches gloobus-preview just pressing space, then, you can unbing ctrl+space and use it as normally.
To install the patched nautilus you just need to add the repostitory and so a

sudo update && sudo dist-upgrade

Anyway, in my blog there are detailed instructions http://gloobus.wordpress.com/2009/09/08/ppa/

I hope it works for you.

Tought, if you don't want the patched nautilus you can bind gloobus-preview to another shortcut, you can do it following those instructions:

http://www.mumbojumbodaily.com/step-by-step-implement-mac-like-quick-look-in-ubuntu-with-gloobus-preview

See you!

Thanks for this fast answer!

I already installed Gloobus from the PPA, and it seems like Nautilus patched automatically at the last update (?). sudo apt-get upgrade and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade don´t want to update Nautilus.

I also tried to change the shortcut using gconf, but that didn´t really help. I set the shortcut to Alt + Space, this would be a good solution, but only pressing Space also starts Gloobus :/

P.S.: I´m running Jaunty.

You have to downgrade nautilus then, you can do this in synaptic I think, anyway, I never done it. However I can look for a solution to this.

For the shorcut, changing in gconf-editor <ctrl>space for <alt>space didn't do the trick???

Downgrading nautilus would be too much work for me ;) In a few weeks I will update to Karmic, so that´s not a good solution.

I changed the Shortcut with:
gconftool-2 -s –type string /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 “gloobus-preview”
gconftool-2 -s –type string /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/run_command_1 “<Alt>space”

Now I can start Gloobus by pressing Ctrl + C and then Alt + Space. But the default shortcut (starting Gloobus by only pressing Space) also starts Gloobus :(
I only want it to start with Alt + Space.

Tualatrix told me how to achieve this:

   1. First, remove the PPA in sources.list
   2. sudo apt-get update
   3. sudo apt-get install --reinstall nautilus nautilus-data libnautilus-extension1

Unfortunately this doesn´t work. It´s not possible to reinstall nautilus (and the other packages you mentioned). Only uninstall is possible.

And uninstall is not a good idea, because it would delete a huge number of other packages (Brasero, ...) because of dependencies :(

Maybe I´ll be happy with it as it is. Hopefully the Karmic Koala solves my problem :P

Thanks for your fast help!

You need to remove the gloobus PPA, and then reinstall nautilus, no uninstall required.

How to change the keybinding, or don't have the patched nautilus

Hm... Ok, I think I´m stupid. You have to restart your machine after removing the PPA.

But: That doesn´t fix my problem :/ Gloobus still starts by pressing Space.

Maybe another reboot can fix that, I´ll write back tomorrow.

hi Tom,

i've just re-activated this fonction and there's already a new version of the patch ready for that.
i opened a new bzr branch for the nautilus patch : lp:~gloobus-dev/+junk/gloobus_nautilus-2.26.3_patch
or wait a little for it to be available in Tualatrix's ppa.

Thx for the bug reporting.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, with latest update for nautilus from karmic-proposed (1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3). When I press SPACE instead with gloobus, the selected file opens with default application. How I can fix this? Thank You in advance for any help!

How did you install the last version?

I've installed it from deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/gloobus/ubuntu karmicmain. If i downgrade nautilus to version nautilus - 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1 the SPACE key is working correctly and launches gloobus. Maybe nautilus version from kamic-proposed is too new, and eventually will be patched in the ppa at some moment...

Can you help with this problem?
