Why not use GraphML ?

Asked by Mathieu Jacomy

Why is Gephi using GEXF, which is a new format (more to learn, etc.) and not using good old GraphML? What's the difference?

Because Gephi will support dynamic network analysis, and GraphML does not have any feature to deal with it properly. As we are not editors of the GraphML specifications and as Gephi will continue to evolve, we think that the GraphML extension mechanism may not succeed in fitting with our needs ; this is already the case for the dynamic issue.
