Cant move Desktop Icons when gestikk runs

Asked by schmolch

When gestikk runs i am no more able to re-position my (Gnome) Desktop Icons.
I drag them holding the left button and upon release they move back to the starting-position.

I have gestikk set up to act upon the right button.

Im really starting the like gestikk, thx alot!

Thanks for reporting your issue. Could you please give me your python version?
(Type
>> python -V
in a terminal)

Are you using Nautilus to manage the desktop and draw the icons or are you using some other file manager like thunar?

Could you please set the middle mouse button (for action then click the mouse wheel) as switch. Does this change anything?
Which distribution and which version are you using?

Python-2.5.1. gestikk-0.5. Ubuntu 7.10. standard Gnome Desktop with nautilus.

Which mouse-button i set does not matter at all.

Strange. Are your icons sorted by name? Is the arrangement of your icons fixed?

I played around with fixed and sorting but it all does not make any difference.

I just installed gestikk on a second Laptop running Ubuntu Hardy Beta and its acting the same way.

Oh yeah, I tried out on Hardy and I have had the same problem - I never cared because I haven't got any icons ;)
First, I tried is to disable On Screen Display (We open a gdk-Screen that overlays all other windows) but it didn't make any difference, even disabling on screen drawing and on screen notification.

But maybe fred.reichbier knows a lil' bit more - he has coded all on screen ;)

Hi,
we've found the bug: It has something to do with the osd. We forgot to not create a osd screen when osd is disabled so this doesn't make any difference. Further, when the osd window is created, you cannot use drag n drop. Were working on it, be patient ;)
Thanks for the report!

Hello,

thanks for your question. I did some research and found some bugs: the OSD window is always activated although the user disabled OSD, and the OSD makes icon dragging unable, as Jonas mentioned.
It is hopefully fixed in revision 75. You can get a patch which fixes both bugs here: http://gestikk.reichbier.de/downloads/patches/osd_disenable_icon_dragging.patch
Change in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gestikk if you installed it per package and apply it with `patch -p1 < osd_disenable_icon_dragging.patch`

Sorry for your inconvenience,

Friedrich
