Export for javaview??

Asked by Luc Quoniam

Hello,

Congratulation for the program and project

If Gephi manage real 3D positioning, is it possible for you (sorry, I am not a programmer) to offer an export of the dataset in jvx (javaview) format?? Or to have an approximation with this other project. Javaview offers a very good 3D navigating Ability and a very good web applet to vizualize large 3D worlds interactively...The jvx format is well documented on their site. Ready to help as muh as I can for this .

Best regards

Hi,

We won't implement this export in Gephi as JavaView is a third-part software, but someone could create an Export plug-in. This is something worth to ask on the forum, or if you know a developer willing to do it, we'll provide mentoring.

Hi,

Thank you for your very enthousiast response!!

I did not noticed that you do not accept to work with third parts programs because you provide Pajek import and export...

If the gephi interface was performant in 3D ... I should use directly Gephi...

May I ask you to consider at minimum to include the third dimension in the graphml export that Gephi already provide??

That mean noot only export y and y coordinates, but z coordinate too... Or must I consider that Gephi does not work in 3D????

Best regards

In fact, Pajek is a standard in network analysis for some long, so we had to implement the import/export features.

Gephi works in 3D, and you can enable it by configuring the nodes shapes: using 3D shapes will allow you to use the Z dimension. But currently none of the implemented layouts use this coordinate, so you can assess that every node has a value of 0. The 3D engine exists only to exploit the capacities of the graphic card.

But anyway, we should add the z coordinate to the graphml export.

In fact Javaview is a standard in 3D vizualization for some long so that it could be a good extention for 3d vizualization of Gephi network analysis as import/export.

But very kind of you to consider the inclusion of the z coordinate... With a real 3D Graphml il will be easier to build a converter, both format are xml...

The GraphML export is now writing Z coordinate. The fix is in the trunk and will be deployed in the next release, coming in two or three weeks.
