Geis without X

I am currently searching for a C library which provides the functionality to recognize common multi-touch gestures on a linux system without X (or any other windowing system). From the Geis summary I would have assumed that this could be that library, but when I try to configure, a missing XOrg dependency appears. Is there a way around this?

Geis has only be ported to X11. It's designed so that other back ends could be used (eg. libinput and Wayland), but no one has yet done that.
Can you help with this problem?
