Could not connect: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Hi everyone,

while trynig to connect to mysql from terminal using the command

$mysql -u root -p password

I got the following error,...

Could not connect: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

 can anyone help me to fix this issue..?
