Can't unstick a hello-world desklet from my cursor

I've followed the tutorial at http://develbook.gdesklets.de/tutor-hello.html

That page doesn't specify exactly how to run the desklet, but I assumed it was 'gdesklets open filename'

Trying this I am presented with my desklet, but it is stuck to my cursor. The cursor is 0,0 relative to the desklet. When I move the cursor the desklet moves with it.

No amount of left-right-shift-ctrl-alt-super-hyper clicking will unstick it. All I can do is give it focus and press ALT+F4.

Is this how it works for everyone? If so, how can I use widgets and change preferences etc?

Nevermind. I finally discovered that pressing enter does the trick. >.<
