Will gold linker be included

Asked by Clint Bland

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but will the gold linker be included in any future releases? We are experimenting with using LTO to reduce image size and cannot evaluate using clang. Also, based on the documentation, it appears using gold enables some amount of optimization when working with static archives (which, due to our build and the wonderful CMake are plentiful...)

Any info on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Client,

I'm sorry to inform you that there is no plan at the moment to include the gold compiler. Maintaining 2 compilers would be a significant overhead for the team.

Best regards.

Sorry Clint, I meant gold linker. Sorry also for the typo in your name, force of habit.

Best regards.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the quick response.

No worries on no gold; I'm pretty well acquainted with too much work and not enough people too!

Good luck, have a nice week.
